Agri-Food Technology Meet |
In the present era of global recession, it is a challenge to improve the food security of the people. In India, today more attention is now bestowed on sustainable production systems like integrated farming in order to satisfy the growing demand for food.To fulfill this demand, the most comprehensive Agri-Food Technology Meet is to be held in Thrissur-the cultural capital of Kerala as well as the centre for agriculture & food processing. Kerala Agriculture University (KAU) also located here, will be conducting various technical sessions during the meet. The main aim of this meet is to promote and develop these sectors and related trade by disseminating information and knowledge to farmers, small farmer groups, processors, traders, NGOs, development organizations and other interested parties.The show will also focus on developing farm entrepreneurship, farm mechanization, organic farming, food processing and post harvest technology. The theme of the meet will focus on;
“FROM FARM TO FORK”Impact of Agri-Business
Society has a key role in the promotion of farming among the new generation. Banks and other financial institutions have now adopted a liberal farm lending policy. Paddy production in the State went up by 1 lakh tonne in 2008-09 for the first time since 1975. The State has also targeted a production of 12-13 lakh tonnes to ensure food security.A large number of Keralites are engaged in some form of agriculture related activity. Yet, Kerala's agriculture scene is not well organized as in other states. This meet will help to identify the business potential of Kerala's farm based industries and will help Keralites to view the farm as an enterprise and farmer an entrepreneur.
